A View of Blackmore Vale
The transformation of this single house in Dorset embarked on a design journey with two key goals: to enhance its connection with the breath-taking landscape and to create a harmonious design that unifies its fragmented form.
By maximising and directing views over the Blackmore Vale with large-scale windows, this reimagined home invites nature inside, allowing a seamless connection between the dwelling and its surroundings. The house's interior is also rearranged around a newly formed living, dining and kitchen area that serves as the heart of the home, while a new outbuilding on the highest point of the plot becomes a small music and song-writing studio looking over the meadows.
To create a cohesive design between the existing sections of the building and the new extensions, along with the music studio, the project adopted a 'fabric first' sustainable energy approach. This involved externally insulating the entire building and developing a design language that featured charred timber cladding and render as the final finishes. The sustainable initiative was further enhanced by the addition of a ground-source heat pump.
