Country Retreat

Following our successful project A View to Creech Hill, we were appointed to design a similar farmhouse dwelling which replaced an old and tired house.

The new dwelling is sited in the lowest part of the landscape, so to be concealed from the main road, and also to create a more agreeable outlook across the landscape. As a family home, it provides accommodation of five bedrooms, with associated kitchen, dining and reception rooms, a studio and a carport, and benefits from two lakes and a stream.

There is a well expressed juxtaposition of the new against the old, with the principle mass of the house being formed of traditional materials and details and the counter-play being a contemporary insert forming a glass-roofed and glass-walled garden room in what might have been a central courtyard area of an original house.
